What's happening in our world?
On Monday, 13 November 2000, we had a small house fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt at all, and all pets came out fine. However, if you've ever had an event like this in your life, you know it's not easy. It's very emotional to be so close to a real disaster. Even though the damage was relatively minor, the emotional scars are not. We were pretty lucky, indeed.
The damage was limited to a small area, right next to the fireplace. Unfortunately, the "rock" on the face of the fireplace was so scorched, the restoration involved removing all of the "rock" and replacing it with a new material. We took advantage of this to change how the face looks. We were very happy with the results. We have one last "project" to complete before we can say the job is complete, and that is the carpet. It should be in place late this week (1/5/2001), with any luck.
After the restoration, the fireplace and the seating area.
Here's an other shot of the fireplace, before the fire, and one during construction. Can't find one that show the older version of the living room, but I'll keep looking.
We'll be quite glad to have this behind us, as we've had contractors in the house nearly every day since the fire.
Update: as of January 10, the work is Complete. EVERYTHING IS DONE!
