| Every day 1 out of 4 children are bullied and 85% of the time there is no intervention done by either an adult or a peer. A reported 77% of children say they have been bullied and 14% said they were physically bullied. These results in 8% of children miss one day of school a year. In the school year of 1996-97, there were 187,890 physical attacks between students with 11,000 included a weapon. (Why, atriumsoc)
These statistics show that children really are becoming violent especial since the students themselves say school are becoming violent. Especially since 86% of student says, bullying is what causes students to act in revenge that is lethal. Students are bulling as they are in the stage of all about me and any thing different is not correct. The victims who are bullied then have this anger about being punished just for being different that is bottled up until then they become violent. (why, atriumsoc) Bullying can be stopped by adult intervention. If bullies were taught at home to not bully other children that are different then it would stop the cycle. If the children that are bullied are taught to speak up to an adult then their anger will not bottle up inside. Adults should pay attention to children even when they are with peers who you think are their friends. By teaching both the victims and the bullies that violence is not the answer as well as to speak how they feel violence will stop. |
