| Dear Friends and Loved Ones, I DID IT!!! I really climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and got down again. What an experience it was. It was the most challenging, difficult and dangerous thing I've ever done in my life. It is definitely my adventure of a lifetime. In the process I set a new world record. It seems I am officially the oldest woman to climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro via the difficult Machame route. Less than 15% of the people attempting the climb choose this route. The day after I completed the climb, I flew to Kenya to recuperate at the beautiful home of my friends, Doug and Mike, which overlooks The Indian Ocean. After 10 days of being spoiled and pampered, which I loved, I was good as new. We then went on a mini safari to the Masai Mara for 3 days where we experienced some fantastic animal viewings. We stayed at Little Governors Camp and Mara Serena lodge - both rated in the top 10 of luxury safari accommodations. Then we flew to Nairobi and I returned home to Columbus. A journalist friend of Doug and Mike from Mombasa came to their home one afternoon and stayed till noon the next day. She wanted to interview me to write a story about my adventure for her paper, The Mombasa Gazette. She sent me the draft for review. It is somewhat long, but she described my climb so I have attached it to this message. Now I have many wonderful memories of my African adventure and many stories to tell. Life is good! Love, Carol |
