Violet Shafts
The Violet Shafts were created about 160 years ago by Thellendesha Gherianias, an orphaned elven maid who lived along the southern border of Ragyrinthis.  Her home had always been the subject of goblin raids, for it was alone in the forest, but it was set on a jagged hill and walled in, easily defendable by her two parents.  Goblins would attack the fortified house and give up due to the large amount of losses the two elven archers could inflict upon them.  Thellen too became a gifted archer, and ended up assisting her parents during these attacks, but they were always hard.  Her parents refused to move, for they had settled here and there was no leaving no, none could take away their home.  This inevitably led to their downfall.

Thellendesha's parents were cut down by a force of goblins that was quite unusually big for a raiding party.  They had felled many goblins, but by sheer numbers the goblins were able to take the miniture keep and Thellen was forced to hide in the celler.  She waited for two hours before glancing out, and found that most of the goblins had left, just a few still here enjoying the spoils of the house.  She found her father's bow and quiver, soaked reddish-purple in blood that was half his own and half goblins, and silently slayed the dozen goblins that had invaded her home.

Thellen left her home, hunting goblins along the border for up to fifteen years after the incident, and during this time she gained a small group of followers that also were desperate to end the goblin menace and save Ragyrinthis.  This band gained the name Violet Shafts, for Thellen always soaked her arrows in the dark ichor of goblin blood, turning them a hideous purple, and these arrows, many believe, never missed their goblinoid mark.  Over the course of the last 160 years, Thellen's Violet Shafts have grown great in number, encompassing many druids and rangers that previously protected the forest, village defenders whose village had been attacked by the goblin hordes, and a variety of others who simply wished to fight the goblins.

Now, the Violet Shafts number around 250 members, most of whom are elves, but centaurs and few are not uncommon in the mix.  Thellendesha Gherianias is the leader, while her apprentice Toriveriun Odonniliss and a centaur known as Cordrith Hourgen work as the subleaders of the organization.  The Ragyrinthis military was originally at odds with the organization when the Violet Shafts went from a small band of vigilantes to a small army of vigilant warriors, but the two groups have calmed their anxiety and Ragyrinthis has, effectively, left the southern border of the country up to the care of the Violet Shafts.  The Violet Shafts have yet to fail.
