River Naga
Coiled up, River Naga stand about as tall as humans. The females are slightly larger than the males. They look human from the waist up, but where a human would have legs they have the body of a snake. The skin of their humanoid torso is usually well tanned. The scales on the back and sides of their snakelike lower body, are emerald green, with a slight blue and orange crisscrossed pattern running along their back. The exact tone of orange depends on their mood, and can range from dull to brightly pulsating if they are very upset. The underside of their lower body is made up from flexible plates that are almost white, and well suited for gliding along the ground. The fingers of River Naga seem long and fine by human standards, but they end in thick and hard nails, that can rival claws. Naga usually use them for hunting and on occasion in combat.. River Naga have, without exception, black hair that needs a lot of attention since they spend a lot of time in or under water. Their eyes are usually green or black and, like a snakes, vertically slits.

Most River Naga revere either Sleissshar, the Naga goddess of the hunt as well as strength at arms or Coilesssh their goddess of community and the hearth. Of these two, Coilesssh is the more prominent. The Naga pantheon also includes some other minor deities, but they are of little influence. For a River Naga to revere deities of other races is almost unheard of.

Most River Naga gravitate toward a neutral alignment, with an ever so light affinity towards lawfulness. Most of the time they are rather self centered, but if push comes to pull they usually put the good of their hive above their own needs. Most River Naga live in small hives that are usually ruled by the most senior female of the hive. These hives take the form of small defensible structures, usually built on artificial islands in lakes or streams, less often on riverbanks and lakeshores. These communities hardly ever number more than a hundred adults, and maybe twice as many adolescents.

To all other humanoids Naga seem somewhat alien. Most people are somewhat wary around them. One reason for that might be their eating habits. Although Naga have cultivated both agricultural and culinary skills, they still like to hunt prey, kill it with their poison and swallow it whole. Because of their humanoid upper body they can only do so with smaller prey, but the other cultivated races tend to find it rather disturbing. And still these same people will be drawn to the Naga by their unnatural charm. Besides their eating habits River Naga are well known for their sorcerers and well spoken diplomats.

River Naga speak Nagissh. The language is dominated by the Nagas natural hissing. The same hissing pronunciation, that all Naga share, also gives them a hard time when learning any other language. Because of this, they hardly ever bother trying.
