| The Phoenicians | ||
| Phoenicia is not an island, or a country at all. It is the name of a fleet of ships belonging to a race of people called Phoenicians. These people are eternal wanderers on the endless seas of Aldreia. They will never voluntarily set foot upon land, except to provision or repair their ships. They are merchants and smugglers for the most part, in high demand, for their ships are some of the fastest in the world, one specifically, The Western Star, has won the longest race in the world for the past 6 years. To the majority of people they are strange, mysterious wanders. They rarely speak of themselves on the occasion that anyone meets them, and little of their culture is actually known. Phoenicians are dark skinned, with sun bleached black hair, and green or blue almond shaped eyes. Male and Female wear their hair impractically long, usually held back in a single braid. Unlike many sea faring cultures, the Phoenician sailors are rigidly clean, bathing frequently, even if it just in the salt water over their gunwales. They tend towards gauzy light clothing, such as silk, gauze and fine linen, theyve a preference for bright colors. Indeed, they often layer mismatched colors one on top of the other. Pierced ears, noses, lips, and eyebrows are all common as is baggy clothing lashed down with varicolored scarves to prevent it from tangling on the rigging. Phoenicians wear a single medallion in addition to the bells and ribbons in their braids. This medallion bears the crest of their clan, and their name. A reward is offered to anyone who returns the medallion, and/or the person who wore it to any Phoenician, in the rare cases one is lost from their clan. |
