| Architecture of Le'resh | |||
| As in Aelthiur, wood is rare, so the majority of buildings are contructed of stone. The usual style is a sweeping style, the houses are raised towards the sky, with great windows in every direction. The floor plans are open, with few walls between rooms. Where privacy is desired, false walls of fabric and cane poles or wall hangings are erected. Some people might say that the interiors of Le'reshian homes look like a cross between a Gothic Cathedral and a tent! It is not uncommon to find various religious symbols etched into the stone, some to dieties long forgotten, a left over from the ancient city the horsemen rebuilt. Another common theme is horses, and there are great murals and frescoes on many buildings depicting this staple of the kingdom's life. Perhaps the most fantastic mural in the city is the one that graces the west wall of the palace wall. This mural was created over the course of fifty years, by twenty of the cities most famed painters. It depicts a battle between the cavalry of Le'resh and a flight of dragons. Perhaps the most striking feature is that unlike many countries, who would show their kingdom's triumph, Le'resh does not. This is a scene of tragedy, with many horses and men and women dead, or dying, and no hope in sight. The only notes to be found on this strikingly beautiful, yet horrifying mural in the histories of Le'resh is that it was commisioned by Queen Atinia Rus Gavan, who ruled shortly after the second Aelthiurian war. |
