| Feather Knight (FeK) The feather knights are powerful warriors who make usage of the feather in a rather odd way: as a weapon. Few people ever meet feather knights, for they are truly rare, but their ways are also rare. The winds are their domains, the skies their homes. Feather knight can come from many backgrounds. Fighters, rangers, rogues, barbarians, bards, and paladins are often feather knights. Clerics, sorcerers, monks, and wizards often find this prestige class unattractive, although the druid sometimes finds its ways attractive. Hit Die: D8 Requirements: To qualify to become a feather knight, a character must fulflill all the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +5 Weapon Proficiencies: Any one sword and one spear proficiency. Alignment: Nonevil Skills: 2 ranks in Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty), 8 ranks in Jump, and 2 ranks in Craft (Alchemy) or 2 ranks in Craft (Weaponsmith) Feat: Acrobatic Size: Medium or smaller Special: The person must have once flown (including magically, by mount, or another way), and must own a feather from a gargantuan or larger bird, such as a Great Raven or Roc. Class Skills The feather knight�s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Balance (dex), Climb (str), Diplomacy (cha), Handle Animal (cha), Craft (int), Heal (wis), Jump (str), Knowledge (Nature), Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty) (int), Knowledge (Religion) (int), Ride (dex), Sense Motive (wis), Survival (wis), Tumble (dex). See Chapter 4 of the Player�s Handbook for skill descriptions. Unbound Jump: A feather knight is no longer limited by her size when jumping. Feather Weapons: A feather knight has learned to craft her feathers into weapons, depending on the size of them. They can create either swords or spears, but crafting the weapon needs a weaponcrafting check. Size of Bird Feather Came From Type of Sword Type of Spear Weaponcraft DC Alchemy DC Large Short Sword Halfspear 10 12 Huge Longsword Shortspear 12 14 Gargantuan Bastard Sword Spear 14 16 Colossal Greatsword Longspear 16 18 Spears are crafted by sharpening the point of the feather, but swords can be crafted two different ways. They may be sharpened away from the hairs, or the tips of the hairs may be coated in an alchemical substance to create a larger edge. If the latter way of creating the sword is used, a person may raise the sword size category by one. Note that most birds only contain 1d4 feathers of the size necessary to create these items. Avian Speak (Sp): When a feather knight reaches second level, he can speak with any avian creature, as per the Speak with Animals, at will. Graceful Fall (Ex): Beginning at third level, whenever a feather knight is falling she may place out two of her feathers or huge or greater size and slow her fall. Strong or greater winds negate this effect. When a feather knight is using this ability, all damage from falling is negated, as though under a feather fall effect. A feather knight cannot use this ability in any armor heavier than light, and cannot attack while using this ability. Feather Shield: By using a method similar to crafting Feather Weapons, the feather knight may make a shield of a size depending on the size of the bird where the feather came from. The process is much like coating the edges of the feather with the alchemical substance, except more of the feather is covered. Size of Bird Feather Came From Type of Shield Alchemy DC Large Buckler 8 Huge Light Shield 10 Gargantuan Heavy Shield 12 Colossal Tower Shield 14 Duel Feathers: The feather knight learns how to fight with two feathers at the same time. They may only use feathers that are one-handed in this fashion. The feather knight gains Two-Weapon Fighting as a bonus feat. If the feather knight already had Two-Weapon Fighting, they gain Improved Two-Weapon Fighting as a bonus feat. If the feather knight already had Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, this ability has no effect. Great Fan (Ex): By using her feathers as a fan, the feather knight may create great bursts of wind. This effect works like a Gust of Wind spell as cast by a sorcerer of the feather knight�s class level. The feather knight may use it once per day per charisma bonus (if any). Spinning Feathers: The feather knight learns how to spin feathers around rapidly and strike multiple opponents. The feather knight gains Whirlwind Attack as a bonus feat. The feather knight may use this ability while also using the graceful fall ability. Feather Flight (Ex): By using the feather knight�s feather weapons as wings, the feather knight may fly at a speed equal to twice her base speed. When flying, the feather knight cannot use her hands beyond flapping the feathers, and therefore cannot attack. ability cannot be used in any armor greater than light. Searing Winds (Su): At tenth level, the feather knight may use the Searing Winds ability once per day per charisma bonus. When using the Whirlwind Attack, the feather knight may make a Whirlwind effect centered on the feather knight. The feather knight is not subject to the effects of the whirlwind, but anybody else around the feather knight is. The feather knight acts as a sorcerer of his class level for reflex DC�s. The whirlwind cannot move, and lasts one round per feather knight level. |
