Elementium
Elementium is a powerful magical substance.  It is similar to granite, except that it attracts magic to itself.  Its color can vary, but usually it is a deep purple with flecks of gold, silver, or grey.  Because of its magical nature, it is useful to all magical people of any kind and is quite expensive.

Basic Elementium can be used instead of spell components when casting spells.  You may replace any spell component that has a cost of less than 10 gp with a small amount of powder made from elementium.  The powder disintegrates after use, so you may not use it multiple times.  Any spell that has a larger component may also be replaced with a certain amount of elementium.  A cubic inch chunk of elementium can replace any spell component of 10 gp in value or less.  Each additional cubic inch in the same chunk doubles the value of components it can replace.  For instance, a 2 inch chunk can replace components of 20 gp or less (10*2), and a 4 inch chunk can replace components of 80 gp or less (10*2*2*2).  Multiple chunks may be used together to raise the effect as well.  To determine the effect of two blocks together, add the amount of spell components together.  For instance, a 4 inch chunk (80 gp) plus a 3 inch chunk (40 gp) together can replace a total of 120 gp.  When elementium is used in chunks like this, it disintegrates into a fine powder which may then be used to power small spells as detailed above.  1 cubic inch of the stuff creates enough powder to power 1 spell with.
