Coral rays appear just like manta rays except that they are colored beautiful and magnificent colors, allowing them to blend in with the coral reefs they inhabit. They filter plankton and similar small organisms from the water through their gaping, toothless maws. They are normally not aggressive, however ooloi have trained them to be excellent steeds for the purposes of both land and air travel. They can breathe in both air and water equally.

Combat
Coral rays tend to flee combat quickly if attacked, but if forces to fight they use their entire bodies to smash down upon their opponents.

Skills: A coral ray has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line. Coral rays have a +4 racial bonus on Spot checks and a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks when hiding within coral.

Training
Training a coral ray can be difficult, as they are naturally timid creatures. Training a coral ray requires two weeks of work and a DC 17 Handle Animal check. Riding a coral ray requires an exotic saddle. A coral ray can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or she succeeds on a Ride check.

Coral ray eggs are worth 100 gp apiece on the open market, while young are worth 500 gp each. Professional trainers charge 1,500 gp to rear or train a coral ray.

Carrying Capacity: A light load for a coral ray is up to 172 pounds, a medium load, 173-346 pounds, and a heavy load, 347-540 pounds.
