Aelthiur Defense
Aelthiur is very well located defensively.  With the mountains in the south, the wastes and Maesellian Sea in the north, Aelthiur is wedged between two natural barriers.  However, the eastern and western sides of Aelthiur appear unprotected.  Aelthiur has taken great measures to keep its borders protected.

Sairenoth is a magic-intensive land and has placed many magical divinations along its borders.  These divinations alert various marquises who are charged with the protection of Sairenoths border whenever a group of people enters into Sairenoth from the east.  These protections are very costly but provide a very strong defensive system for Sairenoth.

Protecting the lower half of the eastern border, Uth Vangiir is a land of horseman.  It utilizes its superior cavalry scouts to patrol the borders moving quickly from one scout tower to the next.  These scouts are not as effective as the wards of Sairenoth, however no army of any size has ever successfully passed through Uth Vangiir without their immediate knowledge.

Tordryon protects the western borders of Aelthiur, both along the south and the north.  Tordryon is actually divided in two by a large wall connecting the edge of the Wethren Mountains to the ocean in the north.  This wall is not complete, however small keeps are located at small increments along the entire wall and its gaps, each of which keeps a large look out.  This however is all the frontal defense, and if the wall is taken the people of Tordryon move back to Argenn to defend the Silverwater Streams.

The Lost Citadel, named due to its outlandish location, is the main defense against the barbarians of the north.  The city of Margiar and the Tharaid Stronghold cover the only channels into the Maesellian Sea, well protected against sea-born attacks.  The Saranguard Stronghold protects the large area of land between the Quicksilver Mountains and the Wethren Mountains, and is perhaps the most well manned stronghold in all of Caerden.  The Stronghold of Gyraethis is a stronghold protecting the least treacherous of all of the mountainous passes through Wethren, and was designed by General Byarakabar during the second Aelthiurian War.
