Lions of PFL

The New Orleans Saints hit the road for the second consecutive week to visit the sparkling new digs of the Detroit Lions--Ford Field.

Lions head coach BusDriver was downplaying his team prior to the game and was overheard just prior to kickoff telling Saints coach Sabretooth, "Don't beat me too bad now."

Detroit won the toss and kicked off, but the Lion defense was only on the field for one play as Aaron Brooks was intercepted on the first play from scrimmage. The Saint defense looked like it would force a field goal attempt but on a third and goal from inside the 10, the Lions struck for a touchdown.

Somewhat stunned the Saints offense came back on the field only to have Brooks throw another interception on the first play from scrimmage -- two offensive plays, two turnovers.

The Lions eventually crossed the goalline and took an early 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.

New Orleans regrouped in the second quarter as the defense stiffened and the offense finally found something of a groove. Brooks hit McAllister on a quick screen to cut the lead to 14-7. After the two teams traded a few punts, New Orleans put together a drive near the end of the half that took them into the red zone. On a third and inches play with under 30 seconds in the half, Brooks called his own number, picked up the first down but then fumbled. Detroit recovered and ran out the clock to head into the lockerroom up 14-7.

The second half featured more of a defensive struggle as Hanson added a field goal to put Detroit up 17-7. New Orleans was unable to generate much offensively as the swarming Lion defense took away the running game and applied heavy pressure to Brooks who was sacked four times on the game.

Detroit scored their final touchdown with 90 seconds to play to give them a 24-7 edge. New Orleans refused to go quietly and put together a quick drive of less than 50 seconds before Brooks found Pathon for a short touchdown toss to make it 24-14. The onside kick failed and the Lions handed the Saints their second road loss of the year.

"The Lions stacked the line and took away the run but we couldn't capitalize against their man-coverage in the secondary," Sabretooth said. "Their safeties and linebackers were all over the field. I thought they were playing with 12 or 13 sometimes. Their defense gave them an early lead and we could never recover. We've got to eliminate Aaron's turnovers and generate a more consistent offensive attack."

BusDriver lived up to his title and took the Saints to school but in Bear Bryant/Joe Paterno fashion was still downplaying his team after the victory.

"We're just trying to be a spoiler team this year," BusDriver said after his team improved to 2-0 under his watch after starting the year 0-1.

The Lions certainly spoiled the Saints' visit to the Motor City and other visitors to Ford Field should beware the roar of the silver and blue.

-Heck of a game by Sabretooth. His defense held my Lions in check for the entire game. Our defense won the game for us this week. Good luck the rest of the way out Sabretooth, hope you win the NFC South.Welp somehow I mangaged to win 2 in a row. Things are looking much better than I had anticipated. 2-1 aint bad...2-1 aint bad at all.

Panthers were looking to get their first win of the season against a Lions team that (on paper) looked right for the taking. In the end, however, it was the Panthers that were had. The Lions, behind the legs of Aveion Cason and a sound defense, dominated the Panthers 22-3.

On the Panters first possession, Wienke threw an interception in his own territory that led to a Lions Field Goal. Then Cason began to chew up the Panthers D enroute to 7 points. The Panthers managed to get a field goal early in the second to cut the lead to 7. That's when the Lions Defense kicked in and completely shut down every aspect of the game.

-Well, I finally got a chance to complete my first game with the Lions. I played a tough opponent, who had just had a sorry team. TheDeadlyOne is a class act and I wish him nothing but the best the rest of the way through. Despite getting the W, I still get the feeling though that this will be one loooooooooong season
