North Area Suburban Project

Par espanol Our mission:
Like its founding organization, Chicago Area Project, the mission of NSAP is to improve the quality of neighborhood life with special focus on solving problems faced by young people and their families. An important principle of NSAP is the empowerment of residents through the development of community organizations so that they can act together to improve neighborhood conditions, hold institutions accountable for serving the community, reduce anti-social behavior by young people, protect them from inappropriate institutionalization, and provide them with positive models for personal development.

Our organizations:

The Youth Magazine Project
The Youth Magazine Project is a fun way to educate youth on how to produce a magazine and empowers them to take on the responsibilities of its production. There are two magazines that are being published through this project: I.D. for high school students and Esteam for a 10-14 year old audience. I.D. is written by high school students from Chicagos northern suburbs, while Esteam is written by a YWCA program called Destiny Girls. This magazine gives the youth a chance to express their voice! Please visit the I.D. website by clicking here: idteenmag.org. Please visit the Esteam website by clicking here: esteamonline.org Currently I.D. is meeting at Evanston Township High School, in Beardsley Cafeteria, Thrusdays, 3:50-5pm (other times and locations will soon be added). Esteam is meeting at the North Shore YWCA in Evanston, Mondays, 4:45-5:30pm.
If you want to get involved as a youth participant or an adult volunteer in the Youth Magazine Project please call (847) 491-9150 or e-mail at [email protected].

The Hispanic Youth Group
The Hispanic Youth Group at St. Nicholas Church continues to offer the youth two hours of recreation time and an educational talk in a positive, safe environment on Friday nights from 7-9pm. The youth group also goes on field trips, does fundraisers, and will soon be doing community service projects. If you want to get involved as a youth participant or an adult volunteer in the Hispanic Youth Group please call (847) 491-9150 or e-mail at [email protected].

Taekwon-do in the Park
The Teakwon-do program takes place in Elks Park in Evanston, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm. We will be moving the program to an indoor location soon. It is free for local youth to participate. If you want to get your child involved in the Taekwon-do program please call (847) 491-9150 or e-mail at [email protected].
