Frisbee Removal
Background The "frisbee" was added to the front of the water pump pulley in '88 when the A/C brackets were changed. The purpose was to dampen belt motion when the A/C cut on/off. The design was changed in '90 or '91 to a thin disk with a heavy outer rim. It was dropped from the LT1 since it caused a squeal from the serpentine when the A/C cut in.
Removal Slightly loosend the (4) bolts or nuts holding the "frisbee" and pulley to the water pump shaft flange. Loosen the tensioner and remove the serpentine belt. Remove the (4) nuts or bolts from the wate pump shaft flange and discard the "frisbee". Remove the (4) studs from the water pump shaft flange, if so equipped, and replace with (4) bolts. Place a lock washer behind each bolt and a little lock-tight on each bolt thread. Install the water pump pulley with the (4) bolts and torque to spec. Replace the serpentine belt, start the engine and observe that water pump pulley motion is smooth.

Result After removal of the "frisbee" trap speed was consistemtly 1mph higher, amounting to about a 10hp gain.
Mod The "frisbee", due to it's inerral mass imposes parasitic drag as the motor spins up during acceleration. This reduces power to the rear wheels and impares performance.
