Unfortunately, John West d.1800 (father of Daniel, our ancestor Levi,
John, James, Joseph, Elizabeth, Sally, and Nancy) currently remains as our
"brick wall". We have his nuncupative (oral) will, which mentions the
children, but no wife. We have been playing around with different theories
based on land records and the wills that we currently have access to. (I
haven't yet connected with a researcher of our line who lives near the
state archives or around Kinston to fill in the blanks on records.) There
are those who suggest he is the son of William West d.1750, but I do not
think this is likely due to the time differential. It is possible that he
is a grandson of this William. It is possible that he is the son of John
West d.1760, whose son John was not yet 21 in 1760. There is more research
to be done. There are those who suggest that our John was married to
Elizabeth Burtonshall, but I am convinced that this is not true, due to
time differential, although she might be an earlier ancestor (she certainly
married a West).
