Re: [NCLENOIR] Roll Cal
Jane, thanks for the information. We do seem to have a connection.

There seem to be several generations of James Benjamin Cummings. As best I can tell, the J. B. who lived from 1828 - 1869 had a son who was Joseph Theodore Cummings. Joseph Theodore's death certificate dated 15 Aug 1928 in Lenoir County, states that Matilda Singletary of Bladen Co. was his mother. The informant was J. B. Cummings who I think was Joseph's younger brother.

The 1850 census for Lenoir Co. has Joseph Cummings (this is Joseph S. Cummings), Maria Cummings, and James Cummings living in a boardinghouse run by William C. Loftin. There is a mention of this in the book "The Story of Kinston and Lenoir County" by Talmage C. Johnson that states that they were brothers.

Joseph S. Cummings lived with his wife and daughter in Brooks County, GA from about 1859 to 1872. I believe that Joseph T. Cummings was also in Brooks Co., GA in the 1870 census.

I haven't been able to determine Joseph S. and J. B.'s parents, although I expected them to be in Craven Co. I had seen the census information with Holland as the stepmother, but I didn't have her maiden name or the name of John Cummings.

I hope we can continue to share information as we continue our research efforts.

County,N.C. Names were compared against the 1850 and 1860 Greene County,N.C.Census records
and in many cases trips were made to cemeteries in Greene County to obtain Confederate
