General Notes:
Grandchildren called him Papa. He was a horse trader and traveled the country buying horses and mules to sell for farm supply store (Cash Supply Store) he owned in Kinston.
Last lived at 110 W. Grainger Avenue. Was a big 2 story house with a covered porch. It was razed after Mama Addie died. He had a small goldfish pond in the side yard.
Don't remember much about Papa. When we were little, he used to tease us by taking out his false teeth and holding them in his hand while they chattered away (obviously a slight of hand and some toy teeth). I remember when he was sick right before he died he was in Parrott Hospital and I went to see him one time (Daddy and Mama didn't want us to see him so sick). When he died, his body was in Mama Addie's living room. I remember being scared of him laying in his coffin there. We grandchildren must have been running around make too much noise, because I remember Mama Sadie (my mother's mother) telling us to be quiet that we would upset Mama Addie.
Grover married Lady Bird Cunningham, daughter of Thomas Ruffin Cunningham and Mary McArthur in Lenoir County on Dec. 8, 1910. He was 26 and Lady Bird was 20. It was witnessed by Leslie Worthington, Hardy Hill, and H.L. Hill. Lady Bird Cunningham was born on 14 Jul 1889 in Lenoir Co., died on 24 Dec 1918 in Lenoir Co. and was buried in Dec 1918 in Maplewood Cemetery, Kinston, NC.
Grover next married Addie Ellen Sutton. (Addie Ellen Sutton was born on 21 Nov 1886, died on 30 May 1978 in Kinston, NC and was buried in May 1978 in Maplewood Cemetery, Kinston, NC.)
