NMS Matanuska Expedition 7/1/02 – 7/28/02

Group picture at the end of the trip.   Back row, from left to right: Rachel, Stephanie, Me, Jon, Kevin, and Rob.

Front row, from left to right: guides Jason and Ward.  The distance white slither behind my head is the lower Matanuska glacier. The large distant rock face is the Lion’s Head.

This site was made so that I could have the chance to document, for my pleasure and for others, the expedition I participated in to the Matanuska glacier in Alaska.  This was the first of many great adventures I hope to have in this great land.

My mini trip report.  This was made several months after the fact, and is more to give meaning to some of the pictures than to give much in the way of real beta.  I’ve compiled what’s there from a combination of my journals and thoughts written later.

Some of my pictures.

Rachel Zack’s pictures:  These pictures are far superior to mine.  Rachel has a far better eye for composure, not to mention better equipment.  Thanks Rachel.

The Northwest Mountain School:  This is the third trip I’ve done through them.   The first was a basic backpacking/rock climbing trip that I did when I was fourteen.  The year after that I did a climbing trip into the North Cascades.  We did some climbing on Sahale and went on to climb Glacier Peak.  Anyways, this is a great organization.  John Race, the owner, is a great guy, as are all the guide’s I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with through them.  I can’t speak highly enough.

Gear Reviews:  Some of my thoughts on gear that I brought on the trip.
