ABOVE & BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY
Schatten - After flying a bombing run through the "Valley of Death" in He111s, Zerstorer and MadAdler were shot up pretty badly. Leaking fuel and losing power, they were both forced to crash-land deep behind enemy lines within seconds of each other. Upon seeing this, Schatten turned his He-111 around and with disregard for his own safety, landed his plane successfully on the rough terrain. Being within 1km of both planes, he was able to rescue all of the stranded airmen. Although his plane lumbered on the rough terrain, he was able to get it into the air and successfully brought his squad-mates home.

Turmio - For rescuing 6High who was trapped behind enemy lines. ~SA~!
Here is 6High's account of the event:
"We set off on this mission in misty weather. We were asked to protect our tanks from enemy bombers. Soon we spotted them, attacked, and 2 of them fell before we were spotted by their escorts. In the wild dogfight in and out of the clouds, I took hits in my wing and engine, so I decided to bail out and try to make my way to the front, back to our boys. When my parachute touched ground, I checked my position and found that I was far behind enemy lines, and already contemplated life as a P.O.W.

Suddenly a Me109 swept overhead. I recognized Turmio's machine and quickly fired the recognition flares that I still had. This was safe because of the heavy fog. Luckily, Turmio noticed me, and after a few passes, he landed on a small road nearby me. I scrambled over to his crate in a hurry, since there was a great threat of being surprised on the ground by enemy planes or ground troops.

Together we turned the 109 downwind. I got in front of Turmio [ sooooo cozy :-) ] and took the stick while he controlled the rudder and throttle, and we took off.... bumpy but safe! I think we were both glad that it was a short distance back to base though... when we landed, we had to be helped out of the cockpit... we were so jammed together.

I took Turmio straight to the canteen and got him filled up good (which isn`t easy to do with those damn Finns), and knowing those bolshewist troops, I owe my (V-)life to him. Well done, Herr Oberleutnant!"

6High - (03-09-06) - for showing bravery, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty by rescuing Uther in CAD mission rep_00666. Here is Uther's account of the incident along with some banter with 6High:

Uther: "It was pretty intense! Bf110s on a bombing mission... as we get near the target, lots of enemy fighters appear. We dodge them and proceed to bomb and strafe our ground targets. On my third run, I take a direct flak hit to my right engine and so I break off and head for home. The engine is dead so I feather the prop, but it catches fire. I keep flying as long as I can but after about 30 seconds the fuel tanks catch fire and I have to bail out... just in time too, as the plane explodes before it hits the ground. 6High sees this and makes a landing on the road near where I land. Very soon he is under fire from the nearby enemy town and just manages to take off and make it to safety."

6High: "It was really thrilling to wait for you climbing in between me and my gunner while shells exploded around my plane."

Uther: "Oh, you had a gunner? There was a chap in the back but I asked him to get out and check the tires." (laughs)

6High: "At last, I got rid of 'fat Arnold'! I thought he had gone into hiding when we landed because he was so ashamed of hitting absolutely NOTHING, as usual... So... welcome to your new job, Uther! Good luck!" (grins and pats Uther on the back)
