Royal Concert Hall
Nottingham

Lonnie Donegan
Vince Eager

The concert began with a duo, whose name I cannot recall! Then the first half was completed by Peter Donegan, who proved to be an accomplished singer and keyboard player.
After the interval, it was announced that Lonnie Donegan had been having a hard day, in pain, and was on medication, supposedly for a bad back. He was delayed slightly, and we were told he was on his way. Eventually he appeared, to raptuous applause, and gave the performance of his life. It was one of the greatest concerts I have seen at the Royal Centre, Nottingham.
I was not really surprised to read the sad news on the Monday afternoon, and I was lucky to have been at what proved to have been the final concert of Lonnie Donegan.
Unfortunately I did not find out about the concert soon enough, so I was not in a position to take good photographs. I present here those I did manage to take.
The following email to Karl Cooper, Radio Nottingham was read out on air:
hello karl... I wrote to you last week about the great show that lonnie donegan put on last wed at the royal centre...how lucky we were to see him, just a few days before I heard the sad news..V have spent the past few days listening to many of his tunes, particularly those recorded with van the man in Belfast during his last tour...he was a complete original in style and character, and leaves a great legacy to the world of music...his influence on the early days of rock and roll should never be under estimated.....recognised by the greats of pop who owe a lot to him... john of ravenshead
