In the summer of 2001, Jeff D, a member of the monte-list shared his idea on a way to stiffen up the g-body platform in addition to all the factory bracing available.  The idea was to tie the two framerails together.  He got this idea from the Impala crowd.  GM had installed such a brace on the Roadmaster to please its elderly buyers, and Impala guys had been using the same mod to reduce their exhaust noise.  This is possible in both the front and rear of the car (although only the rear brace reduces exhaust noise).  At both points, the bumper shocks are used as attachment points.  I decided to go without the front brace because I already have the GP cross brace installed (at roughly the same point).  However, I did go ahead and make my own bar for the rear out of 1 inch square steel tubing.  I don't have exact measurements.
If you would like to purchase one ready to bolt-on for a GREAT price, contact
Jeff D for details.

The results are fantastic:

1. Stiffer feel to the entire car. The body seems to make one motion over large bumps, rather than a jiggle feeling without the braces.  Railroad tracks are a breeze now!
2. A slightly quieter interior through reduced exhaust resonance.  Squeaks are rattles also disappeared.

NOTE:  The front brace will require modification to the airbox, although the GP brace does not!
