| Now that you have read I Hear America Singing, it is time for part 2 of this quest. Walt Whitman's life spanned for much of the 19th century, (1819-1892) when music was beginning to take move away from the contemporary classical sound and on to the more upbeat, jazzy sound. This task will ask you to research the different types of music/musicians that may have inspired Whitman's literary works during this time period. If you click on Walt's image below, you will get an idea of where to research on the web. After you have completed the research, I would like you write an essay, (1-3 pages) on the music from this time period.
