Now, it is time to review the unique writing style of Edgar Allan Poe.  In this project, you will make Poe's words come to life!  In doing so, you will make it easier for other's to interpret this poem, as you are painting a clear image of what Poe is stating.  Here is your project-  First, please click on the link to The City In The Sea. Read through it a few times so that you have a good idea of what the main points of the poem consist of.  In the next class, we will reall begin to analyze the poem line by line.  As we are doing this, you will want to jot down even the most minor points, as they will be conducive to preparing a better project.  You will have two options for completing this project.  They are as follows:
1)  Using a search engine such as "google" (images), or a music site, such as Kazaa (images), you will download pictures that coincide with the poem.  In other words,the first line of the poem reads, "Lo! Death has reared himself a throne"  You may want to place the word 'death' upon a picture of a throne.  You will do this for numerous lines in the poem, and make a picture portfolio of Poe's poem.  If there are sections where you have to draw or write something, please feel free.  On the bottom of each page, you will type the line that you are describing in the picture.  Upon completion, you will have a magazine style portfolio which analyzes The City in the Sea with pictures.  The second option is;
2)  Download different sound effects from a site such as "Kazaa."  The sound effects will coincide with the sounds that you think would be in the background if this poem was played as a short movie.  Once you have all of the sound effects gathered, you will record yourself reading the poem, (you may use a dictaphone, mp3 player, answering machine, etc.) in a way that you think fits with the text.  The goal here is quality, not quantity.  In other words, while it will be somewhat difficult to have a plethora of different sound effects, I would like the concentration to be on the way that you read the poem.  However, there are sound effects that can make the reading more interesting, and I would like you to try to enhance the reading as much as possible.

So...as you can see, you are either the magazine director or the audio producer and it is your job to make this poem more interesting and colurful for the reader.  Have fun, be creative,as you make Poe's words come to life!!!
