After graduation I was drafted in January 1968 and went to basic training at Fort Ord, CA. Then, I went to Fort Gordon, GA for my advanced individual training (AIT) for my military occupational specialty (MOS). After this, I volunteer to go to Fort Benning, GA to be a paratrooper (airborne). After going through all the trainings I was sent and spent 18 months in the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam, it was called then) with the 25th Infantry Division. After 'Nam (slang word for Vietnam) I was sent to Frankfurt, Germany where I met my wife in 1970 and we married on July 21, 1971 (coincide with Guam Liberation Day) and are still married to this day. I ended up re-enlisting after my marriage and spent 3 tours of Germany, 1 tour of Korea and the following stateside assignment to Ft. Hood, TX, Ft. Ord, CA, FT Bragg, NC and Ft Huachuca, AZ (Sierra Vista, AZ) where I retired in 1988.

After retirement I went back to Guam and went to work for the Guam Telephone Authority from 1989-1995. In July of 1992 I had a mild heart attack and had to be med-evac'ed to Tripler Army Medical Center, HI. I underwent a quadruple heart bypass because four of my arteries that provided blood flow to my heart were 94% clogged up. In December of 1995 I retired from the Government of Guam under medical disability.
In July of 1996 my family and I returned in Sierra Vista because of my medical condition and availability of specialists to take care of me. Unfortunately, in February of 2000 I had to undergo a heart bypass again because one artery from my initial operation was 90% clogged.
So at present I'm doing fine and have to visit my doctor regularly to ensure my health is up to par and with the help of prescribed medications.
