So what do we know about Edge?
He was trained at Sully's Gym in Toronto by Ron Hutchison and Sweet Daddy Siki. Other grads he trained with included Johnny Swinger, Joe E. Legend, Zakk Wylde and Christian Cage.
His most frequent tag team partner was Christian Cage, and the two were known as The Suicide Blondes. At that time, Copeland went as Sexton Hardcastle.
It took him a little more than five years to make it to the big leagues.
By early 1998, he was already a WWF vet, as an 'enhancement' wrestler for Canadian shows under the Sexton Hardcastle, and Adam Copeland monikers. His wrestling travels had taken him across Canada and to various spot shows in the U.S.
After participating in the WWF training camp run by Tom Pritchard and Dory Funk Jr., Copeland was given the Edge character.
He likes the character he's been given by WWF owner/choreographer Vince McMahon.
Several WWF officials have raved about Copeland.
Jim Cornette said "This Canadian boy will likely make history." The WWF Magazine's Vince Russo said Copeland will be "The next Ric Flair". Jim Ross stated on his hotline that Copeland will one day be World Champion.
Has Been Managed By: Jackyl (early part of his WWF career) and "Handsome" Johnny Bradford PWI Top 500 Rankings: In 1997, as Sexton Hardcastle, he was ranked as #254. In 1998, he was Ranked as #67 under Edge. In 1999, he was ranked as #83 under Edge.
Adam began his wrestling career in Canada in 1994 after training at Sully's Gym. He wrestled in independent leagues under the name "Sexton Hardcastle". He was a loud mouth and did a cheezy dance but he backed it up in the ring. He even was a part of a tag team with Christian Cage in SSW and they were know as High Impact.
But in 1998 Adam got the biggest break of his career as he entered the WWF training camp among other future superstars such as Sean Morley (Val Venis), Shawn Stasiak, Mike Hollow, Darren Drozdov, and Rodney Blackbeard, also on hand at the camp were some WWF superstars sharpening their skills such as Ahmed Johnson, Kurrgan, Steve Blackman, Mark Henry and Tiger Ali Singh.
Adam's trainers at the WWF Camp were Pat Patterson, Tom Prichard and Dory Funk Jr. Pat, Funk and Tom all had GREAT things to say about Adam. Then in April/May of 1998 Adam began wrestling dark matches at Raw and had promos for his debut against Jose Estrada Jr. He did a moonsault over the top and injured Jose but still he was quite impressive. He then was seen on RAW standing in the crowds. Edge has possibly the brightest future in the WWF.
Tidbits
Adam got started in wrestling by winning an essay contest in a local newspaper on why he wanted to be a pro wrestler. His prize was free training by Sweet Daddy Siki.
He wrestled in Michigan and Canadian independents as Sexton Hardcastle where he feuded, then teamed with Joe E. Legend to form the tag team of Sex & Violence.
He wrestled as Sexton in Canada (1997) for his first WWF house show and caught the eye of WWF officials.
Wrestled in many house shows and RAW dark matches as Adam Copeland months before WrestleMania XIV.
