Mini-Alfie Doll Pin
Original doll pattern: Nancy Laverick. Pin adaptation: Geraldine Nehl.
(To see finished examples of the Alfie pin, please scroll down below these instructions.)

Note:
The size of the pattern from tip of toe to head is about 6 1/2 inches...or whatever size desired.

Supplies:
Small piece of fabric, (batiks work well) stuffing, thread, hemostats, scissors, pin back, embellishments.

Instructions:
Trace the pattern onto the wrong side of two pieces of fabric, be sure to draw two arms.
Note: (you may want to make the arm a little bit wider for easier turning)

Use a thin needle and short stitches (1 1/2 length). Sew on the line, but leave the body open where the arms are to be attached. Also leave the top of the arms open.

Trim close to the seam line. Carefully cut a slit only through the back of the doll pin and turn right side out through this opening.

After the body is turned right side out... stuff the hands, sew across the wrists so stuffing stays in the hands. Insert the arms in the openings on the body in the direction that you desire then stitch them in place.

Put a bit of stuffing into the foot areas and sew across the ankles, then hand sew a small tuck at the back side of the ankle to make the foot stick out. Sew across the top of the legs where they meet the body. Tack up the foot unless Alfie is standing on his tip toes!

Firmly stuff the head and body.

When finished...sew up the slit...attach the pin on the back.

The hair used on the one doll pin below is the real curly synthetic doll hair... cut off what you think you will need... put it in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together rather quickly. (Tip from class w/epb.)

You can make Alfie into anything you want it to be......
just use your imagination and have fun.
