| There are many factors that are within your control or beyond your control and you should be aware of them so that you can evaluate what to expect. 1. Seeing conditions may not be good no matter how dark the sky is. If the stars are twinkling seeing will not be good. Many regions are constantly murky. 2. Collimation - if you are using a newtonian reflector or a schmidt-cassegrain you should check your collimation. It can be the difference. 3. Moonlight will interfere with less bright objects. Arrange your deep sky viewing to coincide with times closest to the new Moon or when the Moon rises after or sets before you begin observing. |
