Context
§
The
student will learn about the style of music traditionally performed in India.
§
The
student will learn about the individual traditional instruments of India.

student will examine the culture and effect of Religion
(Hinduism/Jain/Buddhism) on Indian music.

The
students will compare and contrast Indian music to the other ethnic styles we
have already studied.
Objectives
§
The
students will demonstrate their knowledge of Indian music through a final 5
page paper comparing and contrasting Indian music to another ethnic style
previously covered in the course.

structure, elements, and principles of Indian music. Students will also critique music according
to their taste and previous experience.

Procedures
§
First
Lesson: Student will watch both the “Sound of India” video and the “Hinduism”
video in class. The student will then
discuss the similarities between Indian music and other ethnic styles discussed
thus far in the class.
§
Second
Lesson: Students will use the internet to find examples of Indian music that
they like. They will then present this
to the class, and explain what makes it Indian music.
§
Third
Lesson: Students will have hands on time with a selection of Indian
instruments.
§
Fourth
Lesson: Students will complete the Virtual Field Trip, and then discuss the
assessment Paper they have to complete.
§
Fifth
Lesson: Students will have time individually with the teacher to discuss
assessment paper, rough drafts due at the end of class.
