Illusions

Crushed Illusions

Crushed illusions lay at my feet, like shattered glass.
Shiny shards glisten, and beckon me to the past.

The sharp corner of hope dulls
As its held against the heavy grindstone of reality.

What is real anymore, what is sane?
Everything I see involves heartache and pain.

As I look through the mosaic, moonlight sifting through
I see my broken heart  crushed, blending with the pieces of you.

The sad thing is,
You were an illusion too.

2002
he smokes his cigarette, he stays outside 'til it's gone
if anybody ever had a heart, he wouldn't be alone
he knows, she's been here too few years, to be gone

and we always say, it would be good to go away, someday
but if there's nothing there to make things change
if it's the same for you I'll just hang
