Well, this is me. Behind me is the shell of a 1969 Mustang GT named Jezebel. She was purchased in Huntsville, Alabama for $750 on May 10, 2001 at 7am (the time is important). When she was winched onto the trailer, she had no interior trim, no carpet, headliner, kick panels, covered seats, dash, package tray or floorboards. She had no door panels, interior door handles, exterior trim, or weatherstripping. She was the essence of the word "shell". With a lot of work, a good deal of money and the help of some wonderful friends, I set off on my journey to make my dream a reality. |

When Jezebel was purchased she wouldn't crank. A few blows with a hammer to the starter solved that problem, but she still wouldn't run. It turned out that the previous owner had installed a Mallory ignition system and had miswired it. She was converted back to points and fired right up.
This photo marks Jezebel's first road trip. Distance: 1/4 mile. She still had no covered seats or floor pans or any other trim. It made one want to yell, "Yabba-Dabba-Doo" while going down the street! Braking was handled through the use of the parking brake (only one wheel of which worked) |

After repairing the brakes, welding in new floorboards, replacing the carburetor and finding four tires of the same size, I drove Jezebel every day. I spent the next nine months working out mechanical problems, constantly discovering new vacuum leaks, doing minor body repair and tormenting the mechanics I worked with trying to solve vibration problems. Jezebel was delivered to Kevin Bates of Bates Body Shop in Petersburg, TN (931-438-2529) on February 20, 2002.
Kevin and his assistant worked diligently for the next three months on the exterior. As the following pictures will show, I was at the body shop every other working day with my camera until the job was completed. When I wasn't bugging Kevin, I was spending time gathering the necessary parts to complete her interior. |
