| Welcome to the Refugee Camp | ||||||||||||
| Welcome to the Refugee Camp. We are supposed to call it the Refugee village because camp has bad associations in Africa. The place is extremely well organized and is more like a village than like a refugee camp so call it what you will. Another, rejected, name for the place was Mwange Baby factory. Not much else for them to do and your food quota is increased with each baby so why not? These pictures are mostly of people I see on a regular basis in the camp. That is all that can fit on the disk. I find it spooky to look at these people and realize that all of them that are over 3 years old have fled for their lives from people who wanted them killed for no real reason other than the live in the way. All have lost friends and family to the war in the Congo but life goes on for all of them. |

| Kids: Whenever I take out the digital camera, all the kids run and jump around in front of me, like so. I have about 50 similar pictures. Now that I have been here a while I realize that they are the same kids each time. Also note the road, they are better in the camp then anywhere else in Northern Zambia. | ||||||||||||
| Kid Outside: I really like this picture. There is a primary school graduation ceremony inside the insaka (meeting center). All the adults are so excited to see their kids graduating that they don't make any room for this little tyke who is left to stand in the rain. | ||||||||||||

| Little Guy: This guy is so cute. | ||||||||||||
| Limbo: This is the first Limbo game played in Zambia (as far as we can tell). The woman is going through our intensive Leadership Training Course. The Congolese love music, singing, dancing and drumming so the Limbo caught on very very quickly. | ||||||||||||

| Rain: More kids stuck in the rain. They are looking extra sad because they are asking for candy. | ||||||||||||

| Mwange Girl: This little girl comes to play with me every single time I come to the camp. She is very cute but is an instigator of mayhem. She usually ends up crying because some other kid has been mean to her but she usually started it. She used to be terrified of me but now she tried to pick my pocket. | ||||||||||||
| World AIDS Day: My drum was never the same after this day. This is the march around the camp singing songs and dancing before the football games, dramas and speeches. One in four of these guys are HIV+. | ||||||||||||

| Sputnik Hair: Easily the most common hairstyle for women. It is so popular that it is starting to catch on with the much more conservative Zambians. Kafula says it is cool. Kafula also has blue hair. | ||||||||||||
