Is a forum a genre?
Well, if you really want to be precise about the concept, then it probably isn't.
However, the proliferation of discussion groups and forums such as Jewish Writing may arguably make it possible to include a wider range of writing than before. The moderator or the subscriber who submits clear copy to forums receives more respect and better responses to queries than the one who relies on emoticons and cutesie sayings.
Since this quasi-genre is unquestionably growing in popularity and influence, and since people are learning to write and submit worthwhile and important materials to forums, we would be remiss if we were to omit this category from our Jewish Writing genres.
