If you are walking down the Arab Shuk in the Old City
of Jerusalem, and suddenly come to a store decorated by festive blue and
white Israeli flags with a smiling, friendly proprietor, you know you have
reached Eli Ben Josef.
The Store is located at 38 Chain Street, on the way from Jaffa Gate to the Western Wall and the Temple Mount.
Eli was trained as a scribe, and writes using the age old methodology of using a quill to write on the parchment. The ink will not fade for hundreds of years. Your favorite verse from the Bible can be written in the original Hebrew by Eli as you watch. The ink takes a few minutes to dry, and then you can put it in a frame and take it home.
You can tour all over Israel, but no where else will you have this experience of seeing a scribe practice the age old ritual of writing the holy texts in a way that was passed down from teacher to student for hundreds of years.
