GEMSTONES
Most gemstones are simply minerals that have developed under certain favourable conditions to form as crystals, but only crystals which possess the three cardinal virtues of beauty, durability and rarity can be considered as precious or semi-precious gemstones.
Item Description Gor Price
Amber (by the piece) Cabochon 12mm round 18 x 13mm oval Components: 80% carbon, ca 10% hydrogen, ca 10% oxygen, small quantity of sulphur. Amber is a natural product, an organic gem, the hardened, fossilized sap or resin from ancient pine trees. Every stone by itself a uniqueness, and it is the art of the grader to recognise the final product in the rough stone with that the loss of material survives justifiably and beauty survives most of all. Colours: all varieties of cognac and golden yellow from opaque to transparent, ivory-colored, brown, green (moss), black (contains bark of trees or floor coverings of the forest); rare: blue and cherry 90 CT 2 ST
Amethyst (1 carat) A variety of Quartz, silicon dioxide, which appears in a transparent to semi-transparent purple. The best color is a deep rich purple with a slight reddish undertone. Amethyst is readily available in all sizes and shapes, and is considered reasonable in price. 90 CT
Diamond, Schendi 1/10th carat 1 GT

Diamond, Schendi 1 full carat 20 GT
Emerald (1 carat) 7.0x5.0mm Emerald Cut Emerald is the green variety of beryl. Top color is an intense medium-dark tone of slightly yellowish or bluish green. 3 GT
Jade (25 carats) 25.0x18.0mm Cabochon Cut A jadeite is a gem form of pyroxene, which is related to amphiboles, it is a sodium aluminum silicate. Both types have colors ranging from brown to yellow to green, but only jadeite has a pink variety. Jadeite jade is most treasured for its vivid greens, but it also comes in lavender, pink, yellow, and white. Nephrite is found in less intense dark spinach greens, white, browns, and black. 2 ST
Onyx (10 carat stone) Onyx is the name given to chalcedony which is uniform in color, generally black or white. Onyx should not be confused with onyx marble, a banded stone which is a form of limestone (calcite or aragonite). 1 ST
Opal (1 carat) Color is almost everything in Opals. The more color the better. Reds, pink, yellow and orange are harder to find, and therefore are more expensive. Green, blue and violet are much more prevalent. Pattern: Harlequin (mosaic), Pinfire, Flash, Flame, Flagstone, Ribbon, Peacock, Rolling Flash and many, many others. No one pattern is more expensive than another. It's the amount of color and its intensity that makes it better than another. 3 ST
Pearls Pearls are unique in that they are the only gemstone formed within a living creature (Oysters & Mussels). The chemical composition of pearl is 90% calcium carbonate with equal proportions of water and organic matter (conchiolin). Quality factors that effect the beauty, rarity and value of pearls in descending order of importance is size, luster & nacre thickness, surface blemishes, shape, color and match. The pearls basic body color. As pearls become more creamy yellow or green in color, their value decreases.
Ruby (1 carat) Ruby is an Aluminum Oxide, a variety of Corundum. This gemstone is one of the most popular and sought after. Most fine Rubies over 1.5 carats are much rarer than diamonds and more expensive. 3 - 4 GT
Sapphire (1 carat) Sapphire is an Aluminum Oxide Corundum. This gemstone is one of the most popular gemstones sought after. It comes in almost every color but red, in which case it is a Ruby. The popular colors it comes in are: Blue, purple, violet, green, yellow, green, colorless, pink, orange, and black. All colors come light to dark. Sapphires come with 6-ray stars and some sapphires have a color change ability. 2 GT
Tigerseye (50 carats) 40.1x30.2mm Cabochon Cut Chatoyancy, appearing in these varieties of quarta, is caused by fibrous inclusions. They are generally cut in cabochon, but is often cut into round pieces for necklaces and pendants. Tiger's-eye is also used for carvings, boxes, ashtrays and other similar pieces. When the color is a greenish grey, they are called cat's-eye quartz. A golden yellow reflection on a brown stone is called tiger's-eye. If the stone is blue-grey or bluish, it's colored by crocidolite, and is known as hawk's-eye. A darker brown, or mahogany-colored stone is known as bull's-eye or ox-eye. 1 ST
Topaz (1 carat) TOPAZ is a fluosilicate of aluminum, occurring in transparent yellow, yellow brown, orange brown, light to almost medium red, very light to light blue, very light green and violet colors. Imperial Topaz usually refers to stones with sherry-red, deep pink and reddish-orange colors. 5 ST
Turquoise (10 carat) 20.0x15.0mm Cabochon Cut Sky blue to bluish green. The name means "Turkish stone". Turquoise is porous, so contact with liquids, oils or even perspiration should be avoided. Jewelry made with turquoise should be removed before washing hands, etc.. The pure blue color is rare, most stones contain the matrix from which it was found. Although the stones without matrix are rarer and more valuable, many people find the black matrix attractive, and makes the stone unique. 2 ST
