I LONG FOR THE DAY
I long for the day when death will be swallowed up in victory,
I long for the day when this mortal shall put on immortality,
When this corruptible shall put on incorruption,
And my sinful nature will be clothed in perfection.

I long for the day when Christ will come
And gather all the faithful, to take them home;
O, the splendour of His glory I can't imagine,
As He comes with thousand thousands of angels
To put an end to sin.

If the chapters should close on my earthly life,
May the powerful voice of Jesus awaken me,
With all the dead in Christ,
Or if I remain alive until Christ's Second Coming,
May I be translated with the righteous living.

O, the joy and bliss of my future heavenly home!
'Tis the cry of my heart: Come, Lord, Jesus, come!
O, what a day when my faith shall be sight!
Come, Lord Jesus, in your glory and in your might.

What I look forward to most of all
Is seeing Jesus face to face -
The Divine Son of God, who came to save our dying race,
Who thought equality with God not a thing to be grasped,
But emptied Himself of the glory,
Clothed Himself in humanity,
And sacrificed Himself for us on that old, rugged cross.

How I look forward to the day
When Jesus will wipe all our tears away!
When there'll be no more death, no pain,
And forever in eternal bliss, Christ Omnipotent will reign!
