| Marquis de Lafayette was a great help to the Americans in the Revolutionary War. In 1777, Lafayette and a crew of men came to American to help the Continantal Army fight against the British. He joined as Major General, and often times worked along side with George Washington. He helped lead the Americans to many victories. In 1779, Lafayette returned to France for a short visit, while he was there, he persuaded the French government to send even more aid to the Americans. He returned home to Paris after the British surrendered at Yorktown. He quickly became a hero. After the war, he became involved with French reform, and ultimately, tried to establish a constitutional monarchy before the French Revolution. During the French Revolution, he had to help cut down the crowd violence, losing most of his popularity with the people. Lafayette was brave however, to come fight for a new nation, and send for help from his fellow French. |
