Battle of Trenton
After his defeat in New York. Washington knew that he needed a win to boost the moral of his troops and to help them keep fighting throughout the war. He also knew that there was a group of British and Hessians camped out in Trenton, New Jersey. They could attack Philadelphia at any time. On the evening of December 25, 1776, Washington and a group of 2500 soldiers crossed the Delaware River. It was during a snow storm and the water was icy and dangerous. They caught the British soldiers while they were sleeping. They killed over 100 men and took another 1000 prisoner. Not ONE American was killed, this was a major boost for the American war effort.
