Ace in the Hole

Ned: "Drink this." (Hands her a cup)

Lois: "You were right...they're insane."

Ned: "They mean well."

Lois: "It's not well-meaning to treat a child like a stock dividend and if you invest it wisely, in 25 years it turns into becoming a CEO of ELQ. That's all he wants isn't it? I mean how do you stand it?"

Ned: "I outsmarted him. I watched him with grandmother and I realized her love for him was his ace in the hole, and I knew if I could just find someone to love me, I'd be okay."

Lois: "That's what love is to you? A weapon?"

Ned: "No, no, it's the light at the end of a tunnel and believing in it is what got me through."

Lois: "That is so terrible that you would have to believe in love instead of experiencing it."

Ned: "So it was that much more precious when it finally came along. Lois, that's not going to happen to our child. I can assure you he or she will be loved from the minute their born."

Lois: "I know."

Ned: "Listen, you're exhausted. Why don't you go up to bed? I'll bring up some soup in a little while."

Lois: "Thanks. You know Ned, I was thinking that if we had a girl, I'd like to name her Hope."

Ned: "I'd like that."

Lois: "Good."

Ned: "I love you."

Lois: "I love you too."
