| After World War II came the age of the jet. Hundreds of designs of airframes were fitted with only a few different jet engines. Research & development lead to many operational aircraft, each one better than the last. As a result, most air forces had a large variety of aircraft in service at any one time, & most of those had an extremely short service life. As technology got more advanced, fewer & fewer models were brought into service. Eventually, most air forces only operated a few different models of aircraft in any one role. Most of the Post-War jets were slow, difficult to control & had very basic equipment compared to modern aircraft, but some were exceptionally well designed & are still in service with some air forces today. | ||||||||||||||
