During the Post-War Period, there were many new developments in propulsion, weapons & aircraft technology, notably the vast improvements made in jet technology. The aircraft during this period were designed for totally new roles to meet the new threat that was the Soviet Bloc. High-altitude reconnaissance planes & experimental VTOL aircraft were some of the new types which emerged during the Cold War, along with more conventional jet fighters & carrier based aircraft.
