| redo this with more detail The Hawker Hunter was a real success story, & built up a large export market, notably in Switzerland. The Hunter was principally a fighter, described as a 'joy to fly' by its pilots. The Hunter enjoyed superb handling, & at one point in 1953 (7th September) broke the world speed record at 727.6mph off the Sussex coast. 1,972 were built, including 445 licence manufactured in Belgium & The Netherlands. Apart from the Hunter being a fighter, some reconnaissance versions were developed, designated FR.Mk 10 & FR.Mk 11 in RAF & FAA service. There was also a two-seat, side-by-side trainer variant. The Hunter is 13.97m (45.83ft) long, 13ft 2in high & has a span of 10.25m (33.33ft). | ||
