| Air defence aircraft & interceptors defend against other aircraft, either strike or attack aircraft bombing friendly forces or other air defence aircraft. Air superiority has been a top priority since World War I, when attack & reconnaissance aircraft were the targets. In World War II, the invention of radar enhanced the interceptor’s performance greatly. Today, nearly every interceptor has multi-mode radar & a variety of other performance enhancing equipment like IFF & RWR.
