Lawn Maintenance: Secrets to a Beutiful Lawn
Now that we have covered grasses we can cover the secretes to having a beutiful lawn. The best secret is regular maintenance. you should cut you grass on a regular basis. If you let the lawn get too high it will be a breeding ground fo unwanted insects, creatures and weeds. I know that that can be difficult to do when you are busy and it gets so hot here. Thats what I am here for. I can do it for you during those times.
Weeds: Weeds are any plant that is not wanted in our lawns or flower beds. If you dont mind it, its not a weed. Dandelions are either a weed or the most sucessfull flower ever. The best way, other than keeping you lawn cut regular to rid weeds is to pull them as you go. You can't commpletely rid weeds, but you can get them to a tolerable level. Another way to rid weeds is to get some 10-10-10 fertilizer and put one teaspoon in the center of the weed and this will burn it out.  Many weeds are seasonal, such as onions and hembeck. Onions you have to pull on at a time, they are very hard to get rid of, but as soon as it gets warmer, they will disapear. Other seasonal weeds are easily controlled if you cut the grass as soon as you see them comming up. Once a weed flowers, it sets it seeds for next year, and you cant kill a seed. So get out and cut your grass once in January and once or twice in Feburary and March. It would be a good idea to bag it and put the debris in your compost pile.
Bare spots can be solved depending on your grass type. For hot season grasses you can plug it or transplant grass from another area(such as unwanted grass in flower beds) as long as grass is green. Do not attempt when grass is brown, it wont work. Fescue bare spots can be dealt with by purchasing patch grass. It is grass seed that is mixed with fiberous material that you put on bare spots and water and it fills the spot pretty good.
