The best day of my life
By: Ashley
I met Derek Jeter in November of 2000. He was at Walden books at the Staten Island Mall. I left school at 12:00 nd changed into my jeans nd shirt at the mall. We got in at 1:00 nd were moved around every nook and crany in the big store to make room for everyone. It was so hot in there nd everyone was getting restless. At 5:00 cops started coming in and telling us all to calm down, but of course we couldn't. Then at like 5:00 all people were saying they new me nd were cutting ahead of me! I had been waiting for 5 hours nd this was not going 2 happen to me. My friends dad was a cop so we told him nd he ordered every-one without a number to get ou of the store and then they locked the gate. We all started eating some food nd these boys behind us started to chant "DJ" and "Derek". So we made our way our of the spot were we were told to stay (surrounded by books) nd made it to the spot were the boys were standing. There was a door a about 15-20 feet away. It was so hott and i was ready to pass out but i stood there staring at the door screaming. Finally at 7:00 after waiting 7 hours the cops came out and told us all to calm down that he was coming, but only if we stayed calm. So 45 minutes later he finally came out. i was screaming so loud. We slowly made our way up to were he was sitting and as we walked by the sections of the store we saw all these books on the floor nd they were ripped it was horrible. When we got closer i ripped a piece of paper of my number nd wrote a note to him. i told him he was really hot and my favorite player nd i gave him my phone number lol. So when we finally got up there i was the first of my friends to go over to him. He was sitting at a table and i was suddenly in a dream with only me and him. He said hi and smiled and asked how i was. I said great and gave him the note. He signed my book and smiled an awesome smile at me.When i got my book my hand touched his and i was so happy. My friends mom was able to snap a great pic of him before we left. I was so happy and stared at him the whole time i walked away. When i stepped outside i was so suprised there were people all over. on the top floor looking in on the bottom floor trying to get in and on the escalators going up and down. I had to see him again so i went over and said i was waiting for my friends (which isn't a lie) and i climbed on the book shelf and looked down at him. He looked up and smiled and said "don't fall" i said "i won't". Finally we went outside and Every1 tried to swipe the book away from me so we had to have a police escort take us out side. Thats the best day of my life.
A Fans' Story
by: a Jeter fan
I met Derek Jeter at the Staten Island Mall. He was going to Walden Books for a book signing at 7 pm that day. I went to the mall at 12 o'clock and waited in line with my book. Then starting at around 4 o'clock me & my friend started to get mad cuz these people kept cutting us so we told the manager of the book store but, he didn't care. So we went to a security guard and he let us into the store. He was letting in 500 people and I was number 351. I was stuck in the crowded book store after that. Once it hit 7 everyone would be chanting "Derek Jeter." And when someone else would come through the back door we would "boo." He finally came 45 minutes late... but hey it was worth the wait. Everyone was pushing to get up first to meet him and moving books off the shelves everywhere and this lady kept yelling "don't step on the merchandise." So finally when I got up to him I got my book signed and my friends. He asked me how i was but I couldn't answer and then he shook my hand. My friend Janet whose book I got signed for her didn't get to see him so we told the secruity guard that we forgot our coats inside and went back in so she could see him. When we got up to him I was like "hi" again and I asked him for a kiss and he kissed me on my right cheek. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take any pictures but just being there was good enough. That was the best day of my life.
Carol's Present From Derek
Last year for my birthday, my parents gave me tickets to to see Jeter at a Spring Training game in Florida. Before the game, they were practicing on the practice field and it was kinda quiet so I yelled out,"hey Jeter!" He turned around and putshis hand on his hips and replied,"hey, what?" Everyone laughed but then he had to go in. Once inside Legends Field I went down to the ground level seats to watch the players stretch and possibly get my pic signed by the man. Well, he eventually came over to sign but there were kids all in front of me so he couldn't even see my face. Fortunately, I happen to know one of Derek's friends, an ex-Yankee and player himself, Joe Ausonio, and he had told me to tell Jeter that he said hi so I called out from behind the swarm of children, "Derek, Joe Ausonio says hi!" Jeter immediately stopped from what he was doing and moved the kid in from of me out of the way and called, "who said that?" I proudly answered him by saying,"I did!" He then replied,"you know Joe? That's so cool. Tell him that I said hi." I was like anything for you Derek but what I actually said was,"ok." I didn't get my autograph then though cause the game was gonna start. Afterwards, I was bummed but, my dad said we could try at the players parking lot so there was a little hope left. We waited for an hour and he was the last to come out but the wait was well worth it. I shoved my pic through the fence and said,"Mr. Jeter, I'd appreciate it if you would sign this for me. It's my birthday." He took the pic from me and said, "Sure. Happy Birthday." When he returned the pic to me, I touched Jeter's hand. Ughhhhh! And that is my present from Derek Jeter.
