Well, this week is turning out to be pretty good already, and it’s only 11:43am. Since it’s going so well, and there should be more great things to come this week, I thought I better get the “posting” part of my website started.
Back to this week…
First of all, my Cable 8 TV show, Another View, starts filming this week. Wednesday is the magic night, and since this will be the first show, the taping should be short. The producers of the show, Anna Kelly and Kye Martin, are going to come to my apartment tonight to film me “in my environment”. The idea behind this first show is to introduce all of the hosts to the Pullman audience. We hope that this will peak an interest in people to continue to watch the show. I’ll let you know more details as I figure them out…
The other cool thing that just happened this week is that I finally got a part-time job! I just got a call this morning about it, and I start on Wednesday. The position? Marketing Assistant for the Community Service & Learning Center at WSU. It’s an on-campus job, so when there are breaks for school, I don’t have to work! Yippee! I’ll be starting out working 8 hours a week – 4 hours every Monday and Wednesday. It might work up to 10 or 12, but for now, that will be just fine. I’ve got plenty of other things to do to keep me busy. TRUST ME.
My new boss, Melanie Brown, seems really great. I felt really good about the interview, and apparently the feeling was mutual. She told me this morning that she called one of my old co-workers and got a shining review about me from them (Thank you to Beth or Lori – I don’t know who she called!) which cinched her decision to offer me the position. I’m not going to be making “bank”, but it will help.
Oh my… Beau, my neighbor’s dog, is about to start howling. He’s a Rotweiler, and he’s adorable and a big cuddler. I better go see what he’s making a fuss about, so I’ll sign off for now. Keep checking back to see what else is happening in my WSU world!
Love,
Jennifer

The first taping of “Another View” is complete! It took a long time, mostly due to getting the set arranged ‘just so’ and making sure all the equipment was working properly. We finally got to taping, and to my surprise, it was pretty much live. We did re-tape the last few minutes because in the first take we ran out of time and the ending seemed abrupt. As a whole, the show looked good to me. One of our crew members said that it looked great to her too, so I hope she’s right.
For those of you who are really confused, click here to read more about “Another View” and my role on the show. J
The show will air three times a week: Sundays, Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8pm on channel 8. I’m going to tape it tomorrow and watch it as soon as I get home from doing my radio show, which by the way, is highlighted in my profile on AV.
My radio show, done once a week on Thursdays, from 6-8pm, is on KUGR 95 Rock, the cable station here at WSU. As explained on another page on my website, use an alias on the air: “Rhayna: The Mistress of Rock”. I have been breaking my radio show up into two segments: The Buttload of Buttrock Hour and Mind Your Metal. Both are pretty self-explanitory, but for those of you who are not hip to the slang terms, the BBH features mostly 80’s bands like Def Leppard and Poison, and MYM features heavy metal favorites, new and old, like Metallica and Rage Against The Machine. I use mostly my own CDs, but the station has quite a library as well, so eventually, I’ll start playing their stuff too. For more info on my radio show, check out the link to “Rhayna” on the main page.
This weekend is homecoming at WSU, so I think I am going to show some school spirit and go to the homecoming football game. We’re playing the Idaho Vandals, so hopefully it will be a blow-out for us Cougs.
Speaking of “COUG” – I finally saw “The Coug” bar tonight on my way to drop off one of the other cast-members, Clare. She laughed at me as I gleefully explained how SEVERAL of my friends from home have instructed me to have a drink for them there. Now that I know where it is, yes, I will have to check it out and have an honorary drink for all my past Cougar friends. J
In other more scholastic related news, I have been doing very well in my classes. I had three tests last week and I scored high on all of them. Next week, I have four tests, so this weekend will be spent hitting the books (when I’m not supporting our Cougar Football Team…). I’ve also done a couple speeches already and a paper for another class. I got a perfect score on my paper – a REALLY great accomplishment since grammar was part of that perfect score! I know, I do the Duct Call all the time, but writing for college again is different. These people will notice EVERY LITTLE mistake, so I have to be extra careful in how I prepare my written works. The speeches I’ve done were almost perfect… Apparently I fidget too much - go figure. HA HA. I will be working on not moving for my next speech.
I really like all my classes except one. My astronomy class is really boring, although the subject matter is intriguing. The professor is not very dynamic and doesn’t hold my attention well, but thankfully, he follows the book exactly, so I can get what I miss in the lectures from there.
My other classes, which are all Com classes, are quite challenging, and the professors/instructors are much more entertaining and therefore, easy to follow in lecture. I enjoy my discussion groups more than lecture, of course, but have been really trying hard to make sure I get as much out of the lectures as I can.
I don’t think that I have ever been this studious in all my life. I spend nearly all of my free time reading my textbooks and/or studying in study groups. If I’m not studying (like right now) I feel guilty and end up studying more later in the day. It’s a viscous cycle, but if it keeps me getting good grades, so be it.
Well, since I am now feeling the guilt for not having my nose in a book, I better go. I’ll write more when I have more to report on, and of course, more time!
Love,
Jennifer
