The Mistress of Rock's Playlists...

...Past and Recent

Due to many people asking me about exactly what bands I play on my show, I thought I would enlighten you all with some of my older, and more recent, playlists.  Eventually, I'll have them all up here for you to peruse, but for now, a small sampling will have to suffice.   Enjoy!

~ Rhayna  :-)

Oh boy... I actually found the "agenda" for my first show on KUGR.  This is truly a rare moment because I even forgot I had this!

Radio Show Agenda – 9/7/00

6pm – Public Service Announcement

Main Introduction -

“Hey Pullman!  This is Rhayna, your Mistress of Rock.  For the next two hours, I am going to do my best to rock your world by playing some of what I consider the most ass-kickin’ rock and metal music on the planet.   I’ve got two shows for you tonight: “Mind Your Metal” and “The Buttload of Buttrock Hour”.

BUTTLOAD OF BUTTROCK HOUR

Introduction:

“I’m sure that the word “buttrock” just got your attention, so let me explain. I’m going to re-acquaint you with the music that many of us affectionately refer to as “Buttrock”.  You know who I’m talking about: Poison, Def Leppard, Motely Crue, the list goes on.  These bands all rocked back in the 80’s, and recently, many of them have returned to the limelight with much success.  What I plan to do for the “Buttload of Buttrock Hour” is mostly play the old-school stuff, but when I can, I’ll throw in some of the newer stuff that these bands are doing – just to prove they still rock.  I’m doing this show for fun, so let’s get it all started with one of the all time great party anthems, “Nothin’ But A Good Time” by Poison.”

Buttrock Play List

Mind Your Metal

Introduction:

“Hey there everyone – it’s time for a little change of pace… It’s time to MIND YOUR METAL!  I am a fan of most metal bands out there, so I wanted to dedicate part of my show to the headbangers of the world.  My favorite band of all time is Metallica, so I’ll warn you now – I will be playing a lot of Metallica, new stuff, old stuff, and rare tracks that only us die-hard fans know about.  Besides the Four Horsemen, I’ll be playing other classic metal acts like Anthrax and Pantera, as well as newer stuff that I like, and as requested by you.  There is a TON of great heavy music out there, so if there’s a band out there you want to share with us, let me know! (email address???) If it rocks, I’ll give it a listen… Let’s get on with the Metal though - To start things off with a bang tonight, here’s my favorite band (surprise!), Metallica, with my favorite track of their “…And Justice For All” album, called “Eye of the Beholder”.”

 Metal Play List

(Break – recap last songs played, who’s coming up soon, & introduce the next song…)

As you can see from the songs listed, the theme this evening was scorned love, fractured love, and the like.  This mix of tunes proved to be delightfully morbid (tee-hee-hee...), and just the antidote for the ills that come of February 14th.  :-)  I thought this one one of my best shows, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to record it.  Bummer, I know.  Soon, SOON, we will be on the internet, and then I expect all  of you to write in with your requests and comments, good or bad.  As soon as I find out the details on that, I will send out an email!!!  :-)

February 22, 2001 - (Happy B-day to Kate...) :-)
Buttload of Buttrock Hour Mind Your Metal
Great White - The Original Queen of Sheba Gruntruck - Crucifunkin'
Heart - Wild Child Linkin Park - One Step Closer
Journey - Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' (in honor of Kate's b-day and karaoke prowess...) Soundgarden - Rusty Cage (for my pal Matt W.'s benefit since he needs to be schooled on the power of the 'Garden...)
L.A. Guns - Electric Gypsy Down - Stone The Crow
Cinderella - Gypsy Road Pantera - Drag The Waters
Def Leppard - Women (Kate's b-day request) COC - Man or Ash (Featuring James Hetfield) :-)
Poison - Talk Dirty To Me (LIVE acoustic version - also requested by Kate...) COC - Diablo Blvd.
Barenaked Ladies - If I Had $1,000,000 (LIVE - also in honor of Kate's b-day...) I know it's not buttrock, but Kate loves this band, and well... she requested songs.  See what happens when you are nice to the DJ?! - Rhayna Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls (LIVE, from S&M)  It is also worth mentioning that Metallica won their 6th Grammy on 2/21 for their performance of "Call of the Ktulu" w/ the San Francisco Symphony.  3 Cheers for the Mighty Met!  - Rhayna
Winger - Seventeen (Okay, this classic buttrockorama should have MORE THAN made up for the Barenaked Ladies song.... - Rhayna) Metallica - Wasting My Hate
Warrant - Sure Feels Good To Me Tantric - Breakdown (This is a new band featuring the former members of Days of the New...only BETTER than Days!  Check them out! - Rhayna)
  Disturbed - Voices
Today's show was filled with colorful dedications, commentary and general mayhem, thus all the scribbles next to the songs.  Sorry if it was distracting.  :-P  The show was supposed to have been recorded for my cousin's benefit, so hopefully she will be able to hear how much I raved about her b-day live on the air.  :-)  Hopefully, my trusty pal (hint hint - like he'll ever see this anyway...) recording the show missed my temper tantrum over the Grammy for best heavy metal song.  In a nutshell, my faith in the Grammy committee's ability to differentiate between rock and metal is going down the toilet, and fast.  There were four major heavy metal contenders in this category, and the one lame-ass nominee won.  I think I started having flashbacks to the horrific Jethro Tull incident, and basically went off on the academy for a few minutes... tee-hee.  Now that I think about it, my tirade was kind of funny because I'm sure there are many other metal fans out there that share my opinion of the Grammys... They couldn't find a crunchy guitar riff in a pile of Sabbath tunes even if we took their earplugs out.  UGH.  At least Metallica won a freakin' Grammy award... or should I say THANK GOD!!!  There is SOME justice in this world!  HA  HA!        ~ Rhayna  :-)

March  2001

March 1, 2001 - The Photo Shoot Show  :-)
Buttload of Buttrock Hour Mind Your Metal
Today's show had a theme... guess what it was... :-) Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love  (sorry...needed one more....)
Bon Jovi - Lay Your Hands On Me COC - Diable Blvd.
Billy Idol - To Be A Lover  (Hmmm... do I see a pattern?) Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose (More schooling for Matt W!)
Poison - Sexual Thang   (Yep, I think there's a pattern...?) Soundgarden - Birth Ritual
Poison - Shut Up, Make Love  (Is this bordering on obsession yet?) Metallica - Sabbra Cadabra
Van Halen - Poundcake  (Whew... a song about food! I think..oops) Anthrax - Crush
Whitesnake - Give Me All Your Love (Demanding, isn't she?) A Perfect Circle - The Hollow (LIVE)
Def Leppard - Make Love Like A Man (as opposed to what?) Tool - Prison Sex (a favor for J.B., big Tool fan in 410.)
Def Leppard - Animal  (Oh, okay... yes, I would prefer like a man...) Tool - H.  (yet again, for J.B. - thanx man!)
Warrant - Sure Feels Good To Me (Thanks for sharing Jani...) Crazy Town - Darkside
The Pursuit of Happiness - Cigarette Dangles (For all the Beavis & Butthead fans: "Heh, heh. She said dangles...heh, heh, heh..."  May I add that this is quite possibly one of the most sexually explicit songs I've ever heard? Yikes!!!) The story on my buddy, J.B.: Apparently I had a piece of musical trivia on my website that was incorrect (GASP!) and J.B. graciously alerted me to my mistake, and even gave me the correct info and then some.  Needless to say, since this so rarely happens, he deserved a double shot of TOOL!  :-)
Motley Crue - Kick Start My Heart (As requested by Dave, the photographer who hopefully took only GOOD pix of me!!)
Great White - Rock Me (LIVE) (Oh yeah BABY! Ooops... sorry...)
Well, today's show was filled with even more colorful dedications, commentary and general mayhem than last week's playlist, but no apologies this time.  The commentary is meant to give you some sort of hint to the mayhem that was energizing the show today.  (LAUGH.  It's supposed to be funny.)  This was the photo shoot show because Dave, a photographer for the Daily Evergreen, WSU's newspaper, came in to the studio during my show to take pictures of me for an article that is supposedly going to be in the paper tomorrow.  Yes, an article on me, Rhayna, the Mistress of Rock, and KUGR.  It's kind of an accident how it happened, so I'll spare you for now and will tell the gory details of how this blessed publicity stunt occurred when I can get the article scanned and posted onto the website in all its glory. (Hopefully.)  What I will say is that for some reason, having someone else in the studio caused me to do one of the best shows I've ever done.  I think that having someone there to give feedback was inspiring so I just went all out, and it worked. I'm listening to the tape right now, and I haven't cringed yet over something silly I did.  That is pretty amazing.  It wasn't a perfect show, don't get me wrong, but it had a great vibe, and I really had fun.  I think that's part of why everything came together: I was having a lot of fun.  And that was before Dave even got there!  Speaking of Dave, he thought my show was cool (he even requested a song, which I gladly played) and he said he was going to go get an FM splitter so he could listen weekly.  If I did convert him, then my show has got to be halfway decent!  COOL BEANS!  Anyhoo, I recorded almost all of today's memorable show, so if you want a copy, send me an email.  I'll see what I can do.  Until next time....   ~Rhayna :-)

L.A. Guns - Sex Action Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears
Def Leppard - 21st Century Sha-la-la Girl Black Label Society - No More Tears  (WAY heavier than the original!)
Def Leppard - Lady Strange Black Label Society - Low Down
Motley Crue - Teaser A Perfect Circle - The Hollow (LIVE)
Great White - The Original Queen of Sheba Soundgarden - Girl U Want (this is a cover of a Devo song that is off SOMMS... and it was played in honor of my cousin, Kate, who has been on a major 'Garden kick lately.... You go girl!)
Warrant - Cherry Pie  (How could I not play this song?) Tantric - Breakdown
Van Halen - Poundcake
Poison - Sexual Thang
Today's show wasn't quite as racy last last weeks, but it was equally fun.  Seeing how I would like to think of myself as a female deserving of musical praises, I was thrilled to find so many songs that are essentially tributes to our fine gender.  Cheers gentlemen... Your drooling is appreciated and ALWAYS encouraged, especially if it ends up in the form of a kick ass song... (or power ballad...haha!)  <wink wink>

The plethora of Zakk Wylde music during the Metal show was my public service gesture for the week... BLS has not gotten enough attention, and after finally getting my hot little hands on all the CDs that are currently available and giving them all a good listen, I knew what my mission would have to be for a few weeks.  So, listen for more Zakk Wylde stuff, with BLS or just his solo stuff.

In other news, be on the look out for a new segment to the show... "Rhayna's Rant" or something like that... I haven't quite decided on a name.  Regardless, it will be a lot of fun... heh, heh, heh....

~Rhayna :-)

March 15, 2001   -  Today's Theme: Technical Difficulties... UGH!!!
Buttload of Buttrock Hour Mind Your Metal
Damn Yankees - Bad Reputation Megadeth - Kill The King
Ratt - I Want A Woman Anthrax - Crush
Ratt - Way Cool Jr. COC: Diablo Blvd.
Heart - Magic Man Black Label Society - Counterfeit God
Heart - Wild Child Soundgarden - Into The Void (Sealth) (complete with another spasm of CD skipping...ACK!!!!)
Poison - Cover of the Rolling Stone (Dedicated to Matt Weaver and the Evergreen staff, staff, staff,staff,staff.....WHOOPS-I tried to play it.... The damn CD/player skipped 30 seconds into the song....Arrrrrrrgh!) Ozzy Osbourne - Mr. Tinkertrain
Def Leppard - High 'n Dry (Saturday Night) Type O Negative - Black No. 1
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me Disturbed - Voices
Cinderella - Coming Home Crazytown - Butterfly
White Lion - Radar Love Metallica - Creeping Death
Linkin' Park - One Step Closer (Dedicated to the freakin' CD player that kept eating my CDs!!!!  I'm about to BREAK!!!!!!)
TEST TRACK: Instant Winner - Kate!  (I'm not kidding... the name of this Ska band's CD is called Milkshake... The song was cute; I had to play it.)
Metallica - Sad But True (Technically, my shift was over, but the next guy didn't show, so I snuck in one more Mighty Met song...tee-hee...)

WHAT A FREAKING DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This is the essence of my luck: The next show I do after my great publicity in the Daily Evergreen, what happens?  I have quite possibly the WORST show ever--technically speaking.  It seemed like everything that could have gone haywire did.  CD player #2 was acting up because not one, but TWO CDs skipped while in that machine.  These were CDs that I have played before, so thus my reasoning for thinking it was the CD player.  Don't know if this is possible, but I'd like to think my CDs aren't scratched up nearly enough to cause that sort of malfunction.  Besides, when I played "Creeping Death," I used the station's "Ride The Lightning" CD and that thing looks like CRAP!!!  But, alas, it played FINE in CD player 1.  Go freakin' figure.  UGH!!!!!  I also had a few problems with buttons... like hitting the wrong ones or hitting the right ones at the wrong time.  TRIPLE UGH!!!!!!!  The sad part about all of this is that the music I was playing was super so all the glitches kept robbing me of the awesome vibe I had going when the mic was on.  I recorded most of the show, so I'll have to listen to it to see how bad it actually sounded.  *whimper... cry*

In other, equally disturbing news, after such a great plug in the Evergreen, I still got absolutely no callers during my show.  I'm praying that there is a small band of listeners out there, enjoying my between song banter and bits of musical trivia, but I'm starting to get worried.  Even if people were to call in and say my show sucked, I would know that I had some listeners.  I know, I sounded way more positive in the article, but I know at least one other DJ got a whole crapload of calls the day the article came out, so I do know the station benefited from the exposure.

I guess I just wish I would have gotten a very small sliver of that benefit as well.  :-(  Oh well... C'est la vie.  Until next week.....

~Rhayna :-)

March 29, 2001
Buttload of Buttrock Hour - Ode To Karaoke Songs Mind Your Metal
Fiona Apple - Criminal (I know she's not buttrock... look at the theme for this part of the  evening!) Metallica - Seek and Destroy
Journey - Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' Metallica - (Welcome Home) Sanitarium
Poison - So Tell Me Why Anthrax - Crush
Outfield - Your Love Fuel - Hemorrhage
Van Halen - Ice Cream Man Megadeth - Kill The King
Def Leppard - Animal Black Label Society - Counterfeit God
Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen Black Label Society - Stronger Than Death
Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon (LIVE) Tool - Prison Sex
Tesla - Love Song Tool - H.
Great White - Rock Me (LIVE) A Perfect Circle - The Hollow (LIVE)
  Metallica - Turn The Page

The theme of the Buttrock show ended up being related to Karaoke because of an incident that occurred on one of the last nights I was home on Spring Break.  I won't go into all the details here, but basically, my cousin and I ended up at this bar in SeaTac, wowing the karaoke crowd to a ridiculous level; it was almost absurd.  The best way to describe our experience (quickly) to mention a few key images that might give you a peek into our amazing adventure: "Oh no - we're under attack!  Where are the reinforcements?", the dude that was too drunk to remember getting rejected the first time, the endless stream of songs that should be banned from karaoke books nationwide, Kate taking on the persona of Alanis to deafening roars of approval, the two guys that pulled the MOM card (TACKY!!!!), "Thank goodness for normal people", how Rhayna turned into Rhiannon for a few minutes to become a brunette Stevie Nicks, and "No, I really can't accept that....uh, okay, maybe I can since you just left it here..."  We were both dying of laughter as we were leaving the place, let me tell ya... Anyhoo, the song that I performed was "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks, and apparently there are either a ton of Stevie Nicks fans in that place, or I just rocked it like only a Brunette Stevie could have... HA HA.  I'd like to think it was the latter.  Due to the fact that a week later I was still laughing over the whole thing, I thought I'd play a few of my favorite songs to sing, in front of a crowd or just in the privacy of my own car/shower.  I'll let you figure out which ones are which... :-)

Today's hot topic of the day was the Gravity Check show that is happening on Friday, April 13th in Spokane.  I'm really excited to get to see my former high school buddies play again.  I've seen Gravity Check a few times (not enough) and they always deliver live.  Of course, promoting a show that I have no venue information for did prove to be a tad difficult, but I think I made my point: GO SEE THE SHOW!!!!  I've got a few fellow station mates that want more info on the Gravity Check show, so I'm hoping to bring them along for the ride.  :-)  We'll see...  To further explain the missing track names for their CD, here's the deal: I have a VERY advance copy of their latest CD that is to be released sometime in early Summer.  Needless to say, I have no LP title, let alone track names.  I've got an email into Mike (the bassist), so hopefully the next time you visit this part of the playlist page, I'll have actual titles on there.  Once again, we'll see....

Until then...

~ Rhayna

Do you have a request for the show?  I'll gladly play songs that are suggested, so long as they ROCK!!!  :-)

Send me your request NOW!
