Review by:

Isabel Bigelow is a witch, but all she wants in life is to be normal. Eventually, she gets a job as an actress. When a project is launched to re-make the Bewitched show, little do they know they've casted a real witch as Samantha! As Isabel falls in love with the full-of-himself actor of Darren, she tries to make him like her too... without magic.
As I've stated before on the home page, this site is put together by junior high/high school kids who review movies they happen to see. This movie, however was different. I was with a friend I'm not very close to, and we were going to see a movie together. She was bent on seeing Bewitched, and I didn't persuade her otherwise. (Mostly because I was too shy to.) The only reason I was here was to have a fun time with my a friend, and to see a movie to critique.
I'll say it right out: I'm one of those Christians who is very sensitive about the whole witch issue. You won't see me burning Harry Potter books, but you won't see me reading them either. Witches are real, and I think it is wrong to demeaner them to the cute characters we see in Bewitched or Harry Potter. I don't condemn Christians who like Harry Potter, as long as they understand what they're reading-and I haven't yet met one who thought witchcraft was something that might be fun to try. You can see why I went to that movie with a biased opinion. So here goes my speal.
It was a chick flick. It was a pretty cute chick flick. Nicole Kidman pulls off an adorable character that adolescent girls at youngest will love and sympathyze with. The humor is very good, at times innapropriate. Guys, don't go see it. Little boys won't take to it either- it's obviosly a romance. This movie has that familiar theme of "Love conquers all," (You know, love-can't-be-wrong, that whole deal. Which is misinformation of course, but I'm critisisng this movie too heavily as it is.) It depends on the pre-adolescent girl if she'll like it or not. The idea of a girl who can do magic will appeal to all young girls (Another reason not to see it) but wether they like it or not may depend on her opinion on liking boys or how grown up she wants to be, which often go hand in hand. When I was little I was one of those "EWWW!!! I'll NEVER like boys!" and I would have hated this movie. But the little girl who dreams of being an adult might love the child-like charm of Kidman and her magic and (at least pretend) to enjoy the romance, seeing it as an adult thing part of the adult she will to be someday. An additional note must be added for Will Farrell. He plays the stupid, self-centered love interest, who is very unlikable. I could find it in my hard to forgive him because he was so funny, and I'm sure many will be able to, but many won't be able to. Honestly, he's really too self centered. If you don't forgive stupid characters or jerks because they're funny, I have to admit, not very many characters in this movie are going to appeal to you.
What about old Bewitched fans? Some will take to it, (I was watching it with an old Bewitched fan who loved it) and enjoy the appearance of various old Bewitched characters throughout the story. But if you are too attached to the old storyline, odds are they ruined the seires for you.
In conclusion, this movie did give me mixed feelings. "Love conquers all" is an attractive theme, and Kidman, as I've said, does an adorable job. But I'm not sure if this movie is worth taking up your money.
Rated For:
Violence: None
Sexual and Nudity: About two make-out scenes, sex is mentioned often, providing lots of "humor."
Language: They have a few d*mns and h*lls. Not too bad.
Offence to Chirstianity: A bunch of "oh my Gods." Besides the whole witch thing. They do put a hex on somebody, and use spells fairly often.
Other: none

Isabel Bigelow: That was my absolutely last thing as a witch!
Maria Kelly: I love that show! Is that the one with the genie?
Isabel Bigelow: [jumping up and down in excitement with Maria] I don't know why we're doing this, but it's fun!!
Isabel Bigelow: Guess what? I'm a witch!
Jack Wyatt: Guess what? I'm a Clippers fan!
Jack Wyatt: Am I gonna get pregnant? Because I cannot get pregnant right now!
Jack Wyatt: [takes a drink of something Uncle Arthur has just made in the blender] This tastes awful!
Uncle Arthur: I know. I just like to blend.
Uncle Arthur: Do you want the long version or the short version? And I have to warn you, the long version is in Aramaic.
Uncle Arthur: Run, you idiot.
