Pictures in Chalk (Rachel & Leo Collection)

October 31st, 2005

Rachel went outside in a light sweater.
The wind was blowing softly.
A bucket she held tightly in her hand
While skipping happily.

Down on the sidewalk, she set the bucket
And popped open the lid.
Bright colors of chalk were all lined up
Now longer to be hid.

She pulled out the white and then the blue
And drew a great big square.
Then she colored it in with great blue waves
Each made with care.

Then she drew a girl in a bathing suit
Swimming around like a fish.
Then a great furry lion sitting on the side
Eating from a dish.

We know this lion very well and you will see
That Leo is his name.
No longer made of chalk and dreams
From down the street he came.

Looking over her shoulder down at the pool
Leo siged a little bit.
"Can we go swimming today, Rachel?"
But Racherl continued to sit.

"No, Weo! It's way to cold to go swimming.
I don't wanna get sick."
So Leo walked to the pool and sat looking in.
The water he tried to lick.

"Yuck! This water's terrible!" he said,
His tongue now chalky blue.
He kicked the water slide and then ran
Behind a tree to stew.

Rachel chased him and gave him a big hug.
"How did you find me?"
"The bwue chalk on your feet wed me to you."
Leo's path we can clearly see.

Rachel went back and drew a big field
Of some flowers and sheep.
And she and Leo had great fun playing
And soon were a chalky heap.
