Water, Wind, Katrina

August 31st, 2005

When the clouds start rolling in
My arms are opened wide.
How I love to find You within
The rain and the tide.

But the other day, You came
In such a terrible way.
We shall never be the same
As the trees began to sway.

Whether they really were swaying or
Actually being tossed, I don't think we'll know.
Tantamount winds and runaway floods,
Everywhere we look, horror on every face.
Rather than run, some stayed to watch and tremble.

Sorrow came to visit us that day,
And as the news is spilling
We wonder just how much we'll pay
For our pride. It is chilling.

Why, O God, has this happened?
In our pain we cry out to You!
Now we see the terror and fear of water.
Disaster is at our feet and we despair.

Kindred spirits. We are again
Awakened to Your power.
Temporary are our lives here and
Racing is our time that is left.
Indestructable You are and fragile are we.
Never sure of tomorrow is our plight, but we are
Asking for Your mercy on our knees.
