Alexandra of Denmark, Queen of England (1844-1925): Alexandra caroline Marie Charlotte Louise Julia was born in Copenhagen on December 1st. 1844 in the Yelow Palace, home of her parents, Prince Christian of Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Gulcksburg, future King Christian IX of Denmark, and Princess Louise of Hesse Cassel. Alix, as the Danish Princess was familiarly called, was more deeply attached to her brother William (future King of Greece) and to her sister Dagmar (future Empress of Russia) than to her elder brother or her younger siblings. Alix's time was almost entirely spent in the company of Dagmar, with whom she shared a small barely-furnished bedroom, since the Yellow Palace was so small that it didn't allow the children to have rooms of their own.  Princess Alexandra was a genuine beauty, quick tempered and passionate, she was deplorably unpunctual, but also affectionate and honest. Alix inherited her mother's slim, exquisite figure, her taste for music and her religious faith, and with the passing of the years, her deafness too.She married Queen Victoria's eldest son, the Prince of Wales, becoming herself Princess of Wales. The Prince and Princess of Wales were very popular in England. The Prince succeded his mother in 1901 as King Edward VII, and Alexandra became Queen of England.
